oscars - red carpet

and...oscars time!

I know I shouldn't have watched the Oscars as much as I should have, given the ridiculous amount of work for this week, but one look at the red carpet and I was a lost girl.  Then the ceremonies started, and.....a lost girl once again.  I simply had to watch, given all the hype that I created for myself through last Friday's issue of the Tech.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein.  This wasn't my favorite to begin with, but so perfect for her!  Modern, sleek, and oh-so-elegant.
Natalie Portman in Rodarte.  This was easily my favorite red carpet look this year, and numbers among my top red carpet dresses ever.  Did I mention that I have the biggest girl crush on Natalie Portman?

the hair! the makeup! the earrings!

Hailee Steinfeld in Marchesa.  Dear Hailee, thank you for acting your age.  You looked gorgeous, and I loved the detail on the dress.

Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang.  It kind of looked like it was falling off at times?  Maybe that's just because that's how I feel about strapless in general.  Still - she looked great.  I liked the simple hair, too.
Mila Kunis in Elie Saab couture.  A bit low cut, but she looked amazing, and I was excited to see a Saab on the red carpet - not as many Saabs on the red carpet as I would have liked to see (so many Oscar-worthy ones from the last collection!), but such is life.
Halle Berry in Marchesa.  This woman is gorgeous, what else can I say...

taylor swift

Busy week up ahead!  And a busy weekend! work work work work.  (Which is unfortunate, because I really wanted to go see the Fidelio Trio, which came to MIT and performed last night...).

I've basically been listening to Taylor Swift all day.  Sparks Fly is probably my favorite at the moment (MEET ME IN THE POURING RAIN!), but I still like her other songs - including Love Story :)

Of course I would like Love Story though, because her music video is so pretty.  To be honest, the dresses aren't my absolute favorite, but the idea is lovely.  (and her hair!!!).

This lady's dress is rather interesting though.  The collar and buttons down the front aren't what I would picture for a ball, but I like the design anyway!

how to spend it; bonnie wright and the v&a

Just came across an interesting photoshoot via this lovely pre-raphaelite website, the beautiful necessity.  Apparently the V&A will be having an exhibit on the Aesthetic Movement - and this is sort of a get-you-interested kind of thing.  Feature website how to spend it.

Now a few things about this kind of bothered me - I didn't really like Bonnie Wright's makeup that much (the lipstick I understand...but I think they got a little too excited with the eyeshadow!), and besides, I don't think she quite has a Pre-Raphaelite chin.

Nevertheless, I still really liked the images as a whole - especially these two.

the said Pre-Raphaelite chin - a.k.a the distinct profile of Jane Burden Morris, the muse of Dante Gabriel Rossetti...and William Morris....

tourist pictures - la sagrada familia; interior

i do realize this is completely random...but the weather here is starting to get nice, it makes me happy...and this is one of those places that makes me...well, happy is not exactly the word, but a positive thing, for sure.
