valentino ballet

one of the ballet costumes created by valentino for vienna's 2010 new year's concert.  they were all AMAZING, but i can't find any more pictures online!

let them wear saab.

i've been having lots of fun thumbing through all the hello magazines that my mom brought back for me from england - which brought to my attention (along with the latest WAG gossip) elie saab's spring 2010 collection - with a fairy tale theme. and i love love love LOVE the dresses.

i haven't always been such a fan of the giant slits in the dress, but, well, the model can certainly pull it off even if some celebrities cannot, and this certainly caught my eye.

loving the asymmetrical straps (do these even qualify for straps?  they are far too lovely to deserve such a commonplace name).  it's more like...non-drapey drapery.

and this one...i love how these dresses can be long, yet so flowy and elegant at the same time.

saab has managed to do what cavalli could not in virgin territory - create long, romantic-inspired gowns with a modern twist (without making them look too trampy).

seeing red.

after a horrendous week of scheduling issues, things seem to be smoothing out a bit.  plus, i watched project runway on thursday, and that just makes everything better.

i'm so glad amy won!

so this brings me to the subject of red dresses that i like quite a bit.

there is, of course, the vera wang dress that keira knightley wore to the 2006 oscars.  it's not exactly red, but somewhat it that range, so i'll make it count.  i admit, this dress was not love at first sight, but it definitely grew on me.  and vera wang is just awesome like that.  however, i'm still not seeing the complete relation between the dress and john singer sargent's infamous painting of madame x.

i think the red bustle dress from bram stoker's dracula makes it up there, too.  i have yet to see the movie, and do not particularly wish to see it (except for the morbid curiosity in a little part of me), but the detail on this dress is exquisite.  i can't believe women used to wear dresses like this.

distraction, distraction.

exploring the bbc homepage is a good way to put off doing work.  because you can always claim that reading it will make you learn new things!  i am having a lot of fun taking their quizzes.  my faves so far are the art and personality one and the spot the fake smile one.

reflections on a water bottle.

first day of intro to architectural design studio!  i. am. so. freaking. excited.  well, maybe i'm a little bit freaking out, too.  it's gonna be so intense.  but i guess with great intensity comes great perks...getting our own desks, for example.  and these are really legit architecture studio desks, too.

soooo, as i contemplate the complexities of architectural design, my mind returns to something a little less architecturally-related but design related, anyway.  the wonders of the Ty Nant water bottle.  i actually have one sitting on my desk, right now. (i only have one).  it's supposed to resemble a melting piece of ice, and it feels so nice and smooth to the hand, as well.  quite a pleasant change from the old ribbed kind by crystal geyser and such.  we have Ross Lovegrove to thank for that (the same guy who designed the apple imac).
