kinda creepy?

Well, I still can't remember the name of that one painting that I was thinking about in my ordinary day
 post a while back.

But I did come across this painting by George W. Bellows, an American artist (1882-1925).  It is of the artist's wife - but I find her expression and pose vaguely unnerving.  Not only because her face looks so...well, blank, there's absolutely nothing hiding behind her eyes..., but because I feel like everyone looks like that at least once in a while, when they're really tired.  Oh goodness, I hope I don't look like that too often...

the naked lady post and revelations on album cover photography

(to put it bluntly).

in my defense, this post only has one nude lady in it.  and it's for the sake of art.

this morning, a name popped into my head - ingres. jean auguste dominique.  who had a mastery of capturing the very feel of the fabric he painted.  here's what i mean:

princess albert de broglie, 1853

anyway, that's not the point.  the point is, i was reminded of his painting, la grande odalisque (1814).

i'm thinking that this may have been the painting that i thought of when i saw madeleine peyroux's album cover for half the perfect world - in my on music post.  hmmm.  now that i see them together they don't look particularly similar.  not even the pose, as i had originally thought.  maybe it was the colors?  maybe i am thinking of a different painting?

ordinary day

this is the beginning of your day
life is more intricate than it seems
always be yourself along the way
living through the spirit of your dreams.

dolores o'riordan.

i love that song.

i also love john singer sargent!

portrait of miss elsie palmer, or young lady in white
1889-1890

so this portrait reminds me of another, a flemish one perhaps?
i can't remember which one it is....it's driving me crazy!

on music.

my new obsession: pandora (yes, i finally capitulated and got myself an account)

2 stations very much to my liking: amy macdonald/lenka; carla bruni

top three new favorite artists:
madeleine peyroux
melody gardot
dolores o'riordan / the cranberries

the cranberries - a predictable preference.

but madeleine peyroux and melody gardot - who would have guessed that i be partial to jazz singers?

now admittedly a good chunk of my fascination with madeleine peyroux (besides her amazing voice) is her darn good album cover photo for half the perfect world.

it reminds me of a famous painting.  I can't place which one right now, though.  it's really bothering me.
